Trained staff and community partners are available to provide needed training to you and/or your staff on a variety of topics to help meet your needs.

Professional training topics include but are not limited to:

• Domestic Violence – This in-depth training will provide attendees with the knowledge and tools necessary to effectively serve victims of domestic violence. Attendees will learn the definition, prevalence, and dynamics of domestic violence, common barriers to safety experienced by survivors, and learn how to work with survivors individually and as part of a community response.
• Effects of Domestic Violence on Children – This training provides comprehensive information on the many ways children may be impacted by witnessing or experiencing domestic violence, and strategies to build resiliency in children and caregivers.
• Identifying and Working with Stalking Victims – Attendees will learn to identify and respond to victims of stalking.
• Networking for Success – This training will make participants aware of the networking opportunities that will benefit their organization. Learn how to extend and acquire new networking contacts and complete an action plan for future networking activities.
• Productive Venting – “I need to vent” is an expression often heard. With the understanding of how difficult work life can be, this training will explore the difference between toxic venting and productive venting. The session is highly interactive with ample opportunity for discussion with fellow attendees, where you will experience different scenarios, role play interactions, and leave with concrete skills and new ideas to take back to your day-to-day work.
• Mandated Reporting – This training provides an overview of the history of Mandated Reporting and the skills and information you must know as a Mandated Reporter of Child Abuse and/or Abuse of Vulnerable Adults in Minnesota.
• Racial Disparities and Identity – This training provides attendees with a better understanding of how Indigenous populations are impacted by systemic oppression and historical trauma, what these terms mean, and how providers can help to provide this population with specific ways to improve resilience.
• Role of an Advocate (for Law Enforcement) – Attendees will learn about the role of a Crime Victim Advocate, common services provided by advocated, and how advocacy and law enforcement may work together to improve response to victims of crime.
• Rural Advocacy – Victim needs differ between Metro programs and Rural programs. In this workshop, we will explore the unique challenges victims face in rural Minnesota in contrast with Metro-area programs and the creative strategies advocates are using to assist with the complexities of moving from victimization to safety in Rural Minnesota. Statewide and Metro program staff would benefit from attending this training to expand awareness of the needs of victims of violence in Rural Minnesota as they access programs across the state.
• Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking for Advocacy – This in-depth training provides advocates with the tools to identify and provide services to clients who may be experiencing trafficking or exploitation, and gives information on understanding trauma behaviors as they present in this population
• Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking for Law Enforcement – This in-depth training provides law enforcement officers the tools to identify and respond to trafficking and exploitation as it presents in our region.
• Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking for Medical Providers – This training es specifically for medical providers in various settings to help them identify and respond to patients who may be experiencing trafficking or exploitation.
• Victim Rights 101 for Law Enforcement – This training provides an overview of the most pertinent crime victim rights in MN as they relate to interactions between law enforcement and crime victims, and ways that law enforcement may facilitate these rights and improve response to victims of crime.
• Safety and De-escalation – Attendees will learn about safety considerations when providing services, respect for clients and staff, building rapport, de-escalation techniques, conflict resolution, triangulation, boundaries, and debriefing.
• Protocol Development – Attendees will learn about forming and coordinating a protocol team, assessing community readiness, building trust within their team and addressing challenges, and assessment.
