Someplace Safe Parenting Time Centers create a safe environment for families to interact with each other during times of stress and conflict. The agency operates Parenting Time Center locations that help families safely navigate interactions and exchanges between caregivers and children.
It functions independently from Someplace Safe’s Advocacy programs, with dedicated staff members to prevent conflicts of interest and uphold confidentiality.
The Parenting Time Centers offers a secure solution for families who need to exchange their children between participants, particularly for visits during weekends or holidays.
Safe Alternative
Instead of resorting to potentially disagreeable encounters or exchanging children in public spaces like parking lots, police stations, or fast food restaurants. Families facing these circumstances can utilize Parenting Time Center as a safe alternative.
PTC staff members facilitate the physical exchange of the child(ren) and strictly enforce a no-contact policy among participants within the premises. To ensure complete separation, participants are assigned separate waiting areas, and staff members escort the children from one participant to the other, eliminating any possibility of face-to-face contact or other forms of communication.
Supervised Parenting Time
Supervised parenting time, also known as supervised visitation, is designed for families where the participant(s) are not permitted to spend unsupervised time with their child(ren).
In these cases, participants who have been court-ordered to have supervised parenting time can engage in meaningful and healthy parent-child interactions within a supportive environment.
Trained staff members are present throughout each visit to observe and document the activities and interactions that occur. This arrangement ensures the safety and well-being of all individuals involved.
Supervised Phone Calls
Participants and children who require supervised phone contact can access this service. Parenting Time Center staff members are available to oversee and document the content and nature of each supervised phone conversation.
This provision ensures that appropriate supervision is maintained during these interactions, promoting a safe and well-documented environment for all parties involved.
Contact Exchanges
This service is offered to families who have permission to maintain contact but require assistance with exchanging their children.
Participants can schedule a time to meet at the Parenting Time Center for the purpose of exchanging their children. During these exchanges, Parenting Time Center staff members are present to ensure a smooth exchange of the children involved.
Scheduling
This service is specifically provided for families who require the assistance of a neutral third party solely to ONLY create a monthly schedule in adherence to their Court Order or mutual agreement.
The purpose of this service is to offer unbiased support in preparing a monthly schedule that satisfies the requirements outlined in the Court Order or the mutually agreed-upon terms. The objective is to ensure clarity and fairness for all parties involved in the scheduling process.
Virtual Visits
Available to families to provide an alternative means of facilitating parenting time through virtual visits, which utilize online video-calling platforms.
This option serves as a valuable resource when physical contact is not possible due to specific circumstances. The virtual visits can be conducted either with supervision or without, depending on the family’s requirements or the guidelines stated in existing Court Orders.
This service offers flexibility to accommodate the unique needs of each family and ensures that parenting time can still take place without physical interactions.
Nurturing Parenting Program
The Nurturing Parenting Program is a trauma-informed, family-based program designed for the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect. Through the Nurturing Parenting curriculum, certified Parent Coaches work with parents to help them learn positive and caring nurturing skills. The program is competency-based. Each referred parent will complete an assessment at the time of implementing this as part of their supervised parenting time services. Throughout parent’s participation in this program there are competencies designed to measure when parents have acquired a new understanding and demonstrate new skills that represent nurturing parenting strategies and practices.
