Supporting Community Through Someplace Safe’s Thrift Stores
Someplace Safe opened its first Thrift Store in 2010. That first store came to fruition in order to provide much needed clothing and household items to clients while also helping to provide sustainable funding for the agency. Community members, organizations and businesses embraced the idea of having a physical location that could help to provide much needed items to victims and survivors in their local communities. Generous donations of funds, items and volunteer hours were crucial in the beginning, and remain so today.
Now, with three Thrift Store locations in Alexandria, Fergus Falls, and Morris, MN, community members across the service area continue to support not only the work of Someplace Safe, but the needs of local victims and survivors. Each store accepts gently used donations of most all household items, with staff and volunteers working tirelessly to make those items available for sale to the public as well as available to victims and survivors via the stores’ voucher system. In the last year, the Thrift Stores gave out 225 vouchers helping at least 552 individuals, with a monetary value of $22,208!
Our Thrift Stores are public spaces where folks can not only shop, but also support and give back to their local communities through volunteering or donations, learn more about Someplace Safe and our work, and even seek services and information for themselves or someone they know. We encourage you to stop in and see us in a community near you soon!
